Session descriptions
09:00 | Virtual doors open
Introduce yourself and connect with freelancers navigating similar financial decisions. Share your priorities in the opening polls, discover what others are working on and identify the questions you want answered throughout the day.
09:15 | From freelance income to financial security
Jenny Björklöf — Founder & Community Manager, Freelancers in Belgium
Sébastien Aguilar — Founder, FIRE Belgium
Jenny will explain why Freelancers in Belgium is organising Investing & Income Day and guide participants through the programme. Sébastien Aguilar will introduce the idea of financial independence and the practical journey from earning freelance income and building a buffer to investing for greater long-term security and freedom.
09:30 | Build a cash flow plan for irregular freelance income
Michiel Pattyn — Partner, IKAg/PitchPoint
A good investment plan starts with knowing how much money you can safely set aside.
In this practical session, Michiel will show you how to estimate future income potential based on high-level planning. You will learn how to calculate your essential personal and business expenses, establish an appropriate cash buffer and determine how much may be available to save or invest.
You will leave with a practical cash flow planner and a clearer way to make financial decisions throughout the year.
10:25 | Invest in your expertise: productized services and scalable offers
Jenny Björklöf — Founder & Community Manager, Freelancers in Belgium
A practical workshop for freelancers who want to grow beyond selling time for money.
Jenny will share different ways freelancers can increase leverage and create more freedom, stability or flexibility in their business. The session will explore growth paths for different goals and lifestyles, productised services, scalable offers, packaging, positioning and ways to simplify your services.
You will see real examples from freelancers and solo business owners, exchange ideas with participants interested in similar growth paths and use a practical 90-day roadmap to translate the possibilities into concrete next steps.
11:20 | Start investing in ETFs as a Belgian freelancer
Sébastien Aguilar — Founder, FIRE Belgium
ETFs can offer a simple and cost-efficient way to start investing, but choosing and buying them still requires informed decisions.
Sébastien will explain how ETFs work, what they cost and how they can fit into a long-term investment strategy. He will also discuss diversification, risk, common beginner mistakes and important Belgian tax considerations.
12:05 | Lunch break
13:05 | Bitcoin and crypto for beginners: understand the risks before you invest
Brecht Van Craen — CEO & Co-founder, Digital Currency Academy
Bitcoin and other crypto assets can offer opportunities, but they also involve volatility, security risks, speculation and outright scams.
Brecht will explain the fundamentals of Bitcoin and crypto, how they differ from traditional investments and what investors should understand about wallets, platforms and security. He will also discuss position sizing, investment horizons and the role crypto might play within a diversified portfolio.
The session will help beginners distinguish credible opportunities from misleading claims and recognise common warning signs before investing.
14:00 | Evaluate the pros and cons of investing in real estate as a freelancer
Frédéric Collard — Cybersecurity Expert & Real Estate Investor
Real estate can be a powerful wealth catalyst, but only if you invest smartly. The real return depends on financing, taxes, recurring costs and the time required to manage it.
Frédéric will share his personal experience as a freelancer investing in real estate on the side: why he started, the mistakes he made and what worked well. Using real-life examples, he will explain what to examine when evaluating rental property, including financing, expected returns, ongoing costs, management responsibilities and risk.
You will leave with a more realistic framework for deciding whether real estate belongs in your investment strategy.
14:55 | From Freelancer to Shareholder: How to Evaluate an Equity Deal
Daan Moreels — Entrepreneur; building Belgium’s robotics ecosystem
Someone offers you shares in their company in exchange for your money, work or expertise. Is this a great opportunity, or a cheap way to get you to work?
Daan Moreels will explain how to assess an equity deal before committing. Whether you’re considering investing money, accepting shares as part of your payment or joining a business as a founding partner, this session will help you understand what you’re being offered.
You’ll explore:
- What equity means and how owning shares differs from getting paid.
- The potential upside, what you could lose and the cost of committing your time.
- How to assess a company’s valuation and whether the offer makes sense.
- What you actually receive: ownership, decision-making rights and conditions attached to your shares.
- How future investment rounds could change your ownership percentage, and when you might be able to sell.
- Who you’re partnering with, including their ambitions, expectations and approach to working together.
You’ll leave with practical questions to ask and warning signs to recognise before exchanging your money, time or expertise for a stake in someone else’s business.
15:50–16:35 | Sessions to be confirmed
Two further sessions are being finalised. Topics, speakers and individual timings will be announced here once confirmed.

Frequently asked questions
Why is the event in English?
Freelancers in Belgium brings together people from Dutch-speaking, French-speaking and international backgrounds. English gives us a shared language to exchange ideas, learn together and build connections across Belgium.
Why pay for an online event when there is so much free information?
This is a full day of learning, live questions and connections with fellow freelancers. Being online saves you travel time and costs, while bringing expert guidance directly to you.
We carefully select speakers who make financial topics accessible and practical. Putting together the programme, coordinating speakers and creating an engaging experience takes time and work. Your ticket helps make that possible.
You’ll discover options you hadn’t considered, including things you didn’t know to ask about, and hear what other freelancers are actually doing.
We also see booking a ticket as a commitment: setting aside time to work on your finances, with intention to put what you learn into practice.
Your ticket includes the session recordings, excluding Q&A, and slides. It can be deducted as a business expense when relevant to your professional activity.
By joining, you also support the ongoing work of the Freelancers in Belgium community.
Book early for the best price.

Is the event fully online?
Yes. Join from wherever suits you, without travelling. Both events run from 09:00 to 17:00 Belgian time.
Will this be a full day of watching presentations?
We design the day around participation as well as learning. Expect opening polls, interactive moments, live questions and opportunities to connect with other freelancers.
We do our best to bring the welcoming atmosphere of our in-person events online.
Is this relevant to my situation?
The events are designed for freelancers who want to understand their financial options and make more informed decisions.
Investing & Income Day focuses on earning more and exploring ways to invest and build your financial future.
Tax & Optimisation Day focuses on understanding and optimising your freelance finances in Belgium.
We’re deliberately hosting parallel sessions for sole traders and company owners, so you can choose the guidance most relevant to your business structure.
Do I need to attend the whole day?
You’ll get the most from joining live, especially for questions and networking, but you can attend the sessions that matter most to you. The recordings help you catch up on presentations you miss.
Will recordings and slides be available?
Yes. After the event, attendees will receive the session recordings and slides.
Q&A sections will be excluded from the recordings to help protect attendees who discuss sensitive information.
When will I receive the event link?
We’ll email your access link closer to the event. Please register with an email address you check regularly and check your spam folder if you haven’t received it.
Can I cancel or transfer my ticket?
You can cancel for a full refund up to 14 days before the event.
You can also transfer your ticket to someone else free of charge until the event starts.
To arrange either, email Jenny at jenny.bjorklof@freelancersinbelgium.be.
Can I book both events?
Yes. The combo ticket includes Investing & Income Day on 4 December 2026 and Tax & Optimisation Day on 11 December 2026, at a lower price than buying two separate tickets.
